Binos spread net to find players

Jul 30 2010

by Donald Morton, Stirling Observer Friday

STIRLING Albion’s friendly last night (Thursday) against amateur outfit Bo’ness United saw 12 trialists take the field in a link to the club’s “So You Think You’re Good Enough” scheme.

Seven players from ex-Celtic star Didier Agathe’s L’Academy des Sports on the French colony of The Reunion Islands plus five from a London charity for young footballers, donned Albion jerseys.

Sears successful players from The Reunion Islands include ex-Liverpool player Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Laurent Robert, ex-Newcastle.

The five players from London come from Project Diamond, which has young players who were good enough to signed as youth players for Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs - but not kept on.

The move has a link to its recently launched scheme where players can come to Forthbank on a week’s trial at a cost of £225.

Club spokesperson Paul Goodwin said: “It’s exciting for Albion because it opens up a seam of talent that no-one in Scotland has had access to before.”

Agathe said: “I spent some wonderful years developing my footballing career in Scotland and I hope that through our relationship with Stirling Albion more young players from The Reunion Islands can mirror my success. We are excited at the new plans for Stirling Albion and hope that The Reunion Islands can add to the future success.”
