Go to Falkirk this Christmas for a wheely good time

By Stephen McKenna

The world's first and only rotating boatlift, The Falkirk Wheel, is celebrating this year's festive season with a magical Christmas theme, Wheely Wizard Of Oz.

During December Dorothy, The Tin Man, Scarecrow and The Lion will join visitors in a fun-filled adventure boat ride through the famous canal link.

No festive day out could be complete without a trip to see Santa in his grotto. With sparkling lights and a jovial 'Ho! Ho! Ho!' Santa is sure to keep the kids happy as they tell him all about the brand new Barbie doll or Play Station game they want sent down their chimney.

The Falkirk Wheel has something for everyone. A trip to the gift shop could be just what you need in order to get that last-minute gift for Aunt Mable or your favourite Uncle George. Or you might like to buy someone a special present like the new Falkirk Wheel gift vouchers.

The café will also play host to the Wizard Of Oz theme with Scarecrow Pie and Lunchkin Munchkin for the kids. Not forgetting of course the more traditional mince pies, mulled wine and the not-so-traditional Christmas-flavoured cappuccino.

For the more inquisitive minds, the visitor centre has a multitude of information on the engineering and design masterpiece that is the Falkirk Wheel and the surrounding canal network. Features include interactive exhibits and the Irn Bru Fun Factory for the kids.

The Wizard Of Oz boat trip will run on the weekends of 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th & 19th of December and the week between Christmas and New Year with the final theme trips running on 3rd and 4th of January.

Trips depart hourly at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
